Sayoonara, Kai-san, or, My Friends and Classmates After the First Month
Well, the cat is out of the bag, and some of my classmates now know about the blog, thanks to Mom. Therefore, this post needed to be removed. The video, however, shall remain.
It seems people are interested in mailing stuff to me, and I have no objection to this. The Yamasa Institute Attn: James Noyes 1-2-1 Hanehigashi-machi Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, JAPAN 444-0832

Nick, I'll get you started..
x-y=10
xy=13
(x^2)+(y^2)=z
solve for z
Dave, I wish I could remember my algebra better than THAT. I got what I thought was a quadratic expression: 13/y-y=10 or 13-y^2=10y
or y^2+10y-13=0 and I don't know what I'm doing at this point.
The trick is you don't need to know x or y to find z, you just need to work toward (x^2)+(y^2)...
If x-y=10, then (x-y)^2=10^2=100
Cross multiply to expand...
(x-y)^2=(x-y)(x-y)=xx-xy-xy+yy=(x^2)-2xy+(y^2)=100
(x^2)+(y^2)=100+2xy
xy=13 therefore
(x^2)+(y^2)=100+2(13)=126
James, this isn't a competition, plus almost all your readers are family members and we'll see how your readership fares once you are no longer in Japan, beeotch.
Update your blog you lazy mofo.
